Having a fire pit can turn a house into a home. It’s a place where you can gather with your family, friends, and loved ones to catch up and create memories to cherish. No, we’re not reading from a Hallmark card, we’re speaking from experience.

Your garden can be a serene oasis when it’s lived in correctly and utilising your fire pit as much as possible when the Irish sun peeks its head through the clouds is a big part of making this happen.

Now to the good part; what to cook over a fire pit. We hope you’ve eaten before reading this because we’ve listed some of our favourite things and foods to cook on a fire pit that will leave you wanting to run home and light her up.

Fire Pit Food Ideas

Campfire Hash

Simple fire pit meals are the best, why? Because they require little fuss. Grab a skillet and place it over the fire pit. Now, throw in all your favourite ingredients. We opt for potatoes, onion, garlic, chorizo, sweetcorn, paprika and spices. All you need to do now is let it simmer, season to taste and enjoy.

Irish Fry

We couldn’t write a blog on food without mentioning the fry! Get your bacon, sausage, eggs, and whatever else you like for breakfast and conjure up a feast on an ovenproof pan. Remember, an Irish breakfast also makes for a great dinner. Just throw in some sliced potato and seasoning to bring it to life.

Pizza Toasties

Yes, they’re as delicious as they sound and easy to make so all the family can chip in! Add your sauce of choice to sliced pan (we go for tomato or ketchup for the little ones), then layer the bread with cheese, pepperoni, and any other toppings you like on your pizza. Top it off with another slice of bread and butter each side of the sandwich.

Pop it down on a hot pan over the fire pit and watch as the perfect pizza toasty emerges. Remember to flip it when golden brown on the first side.

Chocolate Banana and Ice Cream

One of our easiest dessert recipes by far and fun for all ages to make. Keeping it simple, slice the banana skin down the middle, forming a little boat with the banana inside. Add pieces of chocolate and wrap the whole banana in foil.

Place each foiled banana on the grill over the fire pit and leave them to bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the grill and open the foil, the chocolate should be melted. Now sprinkle with nuts and dollop some cold ice cream on top. Enjoy!

S’more Bake

Need we say s’more? If you have a lot of mouths to feed this easy s’more recipe is ideal. All you need is your cracker or biscuit of choice, mini marshmallows, butter, condensed milk and chocolate chips.

Line a skillet with foil, press the butter and biscuit into the base and layer on your toppings. Cover the pan with foil and let it cook. When the marshmallows are golden brown, dig into this sweet and sticky treat!

Grilled Pineapple and Coconut Whipped Cream

Something for the grownups, or a healthier dessert option for the family. Slice and skewer some fresh pineapple (soak skewers prior to use). Place the pineapple skewers on an oiled grill over the fire pit and cook them until slightly charred.

Whip up some coconut cream to dip (add rum for the adults) and happy eating!

Phew! That’s just a few of our fire pit recipes. The sky really is the limit when it comes to foods to cook on a fire pit and making the most of your outdoor space.
